Privacy
Vetch is designed as a local-first reader. The core reading trail, selected passages, and private notes are meant to stay on the device or in the Vetch store you choose to run.
What Vetch Stores
- Reading position, reader settings, selected passages, and private notes.
- Docent interactions for the current reading context when you ask Vetch to remember them.
- Public-domain source package metadata needed to reopen passages and cite text.
AI Connections
Vetch shows which AI route is available before use. Local model routes such as LM Studio run through localhost when your browser and machine allow it. Hosted AI routes should be treated as remote processing: selected text, the active book context, and your prompt may be sent to the configured provider.
What Vetch Does Not Do By Default
- No advertising trackers are part of the reader.
- No raw public-domain text is paywalled.
- No browser extension host access beyond local Vetch endpoints is required for the local capture extension.
Export
Your notes and saved passages should remain exportable. Local export is a product boundary, not an optional convenience.
